I always wanted to be a runner. I tried. Even in graduate school when I lived right behind the football stadium, I would join others who jogged the track. But somehow I always ended up feeling sick and sitting at the side…recovering. So I gave up running and turned to hiking—which has been great!
All that said, I support my running friends. At marathons I hold coats, purses and keys, and take photos of each friend crossing the finish line. Sometimes I volunteer at an event by manning a station out in the boonies where I run beside runners and hand a cup of water or Gatorade as they pass by. One time at a station in Oregon, I watched a coyote follow a group of runners. But that story is just one of many true stories in the entertaining skit, “Run that Marathon.”
My research? Just listening to my friends share their experiences.
