This is where the dog bit me.
The town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is the northernmost town in England. I lived there for a year and it’s a stunning area filled with history – perfect for a history-lover like me.
One day, after viewing Halidon Hill from the river, I decided to take a closer look and drove to the top of the hill. I’d read about the 1333 battle and was excited to see the battle plan for myself. While I was there, a car drove up and parked way behind me. I didn’t pay any attention to it.
The next thing I knew, a German Shepherd rushed up and bit me in the lower back – tearing my new coat. Interestingly, it turns out a dog was involved in the 1333 battle.
Before the start of the battle, a Scottish knight – with his mastiff – challenged any Englishman to a mortal duel. Find out what happened to the duelists and the dog in the skit, “The Battle of Halidon Hill.”
As for me? The library seemed a safer place to finish my research.
